Emergency Response Information
FLAMMABLE REACTIVE GAS DISSOLVED UNDER PRESSURE

1. Characteristics
  • Can spontaneously lead to violent reaction.
  • Forms explosive mixture with air.
  • Asphyxiant : the gas will suffocate without warning.

2. Hazards
  • Exposure to heat or shock may cause decomposition inside cylinders leading to spontaneous rise in temperature and pressure. Risk of bursting and vapour cloud explosion persists after extinction of fire.
  • The gas may be invisible and may enter sewers, basements or confined spaces.
  • Heat may destroy stabiliser. Seek specialist advice.

3. Personal Protection
  • Self contained breathing apparatus.
  • Protect personnel from radiated heat with water fog curtain or other heat protective measures.

4. Intervention Actions
  4.1 General
  • Keep upwind.
  • No smoking, eliminate ignition sources.
  • Work from protected position to reduce risk to personnel. Use unmanned monitors or lances.
  • Minimise number of personnel in risk area.
  • PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD - Warn people nearby and evacuate the danger area immediately.
  • Warn people to leave and not to re-enter basements, sewers or other confined spaces.

  4.2 Spillage
  • Stop leaks if possible.
  • Check explosive limits.
  • Use low sparking hand tools and intrinsically safe equipment.
  • Knock down or disperse gas cloud with water spray.
  • Ventilate sewers and basements where there is no risk to personnel or public.

  4.3 Fire (involving the substance)
  • Keep container(s) cool with water.
  • Do not attempt to manipulate valves or remove cylinders. Once the fire is extinguished continue cooling the cylinders with plenty of water for several hours.
  • Do NOT extinguish leaking gas flame unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
  • Extinguish with water fog (spray) or dry powder.
  • Use water spray to knock down fire fumes if possible.

5. First Aid
  • In case of burns, immediately cool affected skin for as long as possible with cold water. Do not remove clothing adhering to skin.

6. Essential Precautions For Product Recovery
  • Do not use standard recovery equipment. Seek specialist advice immediately.

7. Precautions After Intervention
  7.1 Undressing
  • No special precautions.

  7.2 Equipment Clean Up
  • No special precautions.
